What is this?
Our Fall Trail Running tour continues at Independence Grove Forest Preserve and on the Des Plaines River Trail.
Enter at 16400 Buckley Road, Libertyville and park at the main visitor's center. We'll start on the Overlook Trail and then enter the Des Plaines River Trail at the north end of the lake. It looks like the DPRT is still flooded at Route 120, so if you turn around there and reverse the route, you will end up with 7.5 miles total. You can turn around earlier if you want less miles or add the Lakeside Trail at the end for extra miles.
The visitor's center has a bathroom, but it doesn't open until 9:00 a.m. There is another bathroom about 1 mile into the Overlook Trail, which should be open year-round.
